The Knesset's Ministerial Committee on Legislation on Monday unanimously voted against a bill that would allow outgoing IDF chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi to run in the next Knesset election Monday.

Science Minister Daniel Herschkovitz expressed satisfaction that the bill did not pass. The bill's passage would have politicized the IDF. The bill's sponsor, Kadima MK Yoel Hason, vowed to pass the bill despite the opposition.
