Lador: Katsav sentencing expected within weeks

State Prosecutor Moshe Lador, said on Saturday that the prosecution would recommend a sentence against former president Moshe Katsav sometime in the next two weeks. Lador said that the prosecution would measure both the severity of the offences and Katsav’s behavior during the trial when recommending punishment.
“All of the considerations will be taken into account, the gravity of the crime, the way Katsav conducted himself throughout the trial and the way he prepared for the trial, looking back all the way to the 90’s,” said Lador during an interview on Meet the press. The judges’ verdict characterized Katsav’s preparedness and familiarity with the trial as near perfect and took note of his meticulous planning when judging in favor of the plaintiffs.
Lador also defended the prosecution’s decision to sign a plea bargain with Katsav prior to the trial. The prosecution has come under attack in recent days for having agreed to the deal, in light of the strength of the eventual conviction.
