Pinhas Idan, 19th on the Likud Party's list for April's election, officially withdrew his consideration for the race on Wednesday, he said in a statement. Idan was expected to announce on his resignation from the party’s Knesset list after the head of the Central Elections Committee, Supreme Court justice Hanan Melcer indicated to him at a hearing on Tuesday that such a move would be in his best interest.Idan's candidacy was in question because he attempted to run while remaining head of the airport workers union. He accepted a lower post to be able to run in a deal that Melcer and Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit have said is problematic.Gil Hoffman contributed to this report.
