MK Nachman Shai told the Knesset State Control Committee on Tuesday that until the Carmel fire, the public did not know the truth about the fire service.

Shai said that "none of the ministers took responsibility for the failures [of the fire service] and none refused to give justice to them." Worst of all, he added, "after the disaster severely damaged the public's trust in the leadership and preparedness of the emergency services."
