MK Ahmed Tibi on Wednesday traveled to New York in order attend the General Assembly meeting during which the Palestinian Authority will seek to upgrade its UN status to non-member state.

Tibi told reporters upon his arrival that PA President Mahmoud Abbas's UN bid is "a historic event along the road to the establishment of a Palestinian state."

"I fought all my life for the freedom of the Palestinian people so that is why I [decided to attend]," Tibi stated.
