Marines, Afghan troops to stay months in Taliban town

MARJAH, Afghanistan — More than 2,000 US Marines and about 1,000 Afghan troops who stormed the town of Marjah as part of a major NATO offensive against resurgent Taliban will stay several months to ensure insurgents do not return, Marine commanders said late Sunday.
In retaliation to the NATO offensive, insurgents were striking by attacking resupply convoys moving in and out of Marjah with roadside bombs, Marines said. There was no word on casualties.
