Mitchell to arrive in Israel to forward Israel-PA talks

US Middle East Envoy George Mitchell will arrive in Israel in the near future to help restart negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians “as soon as possible,” senior White House officials said Wednesday evening.

The announcement came several hours after Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa read a statement of support for US-mediated talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is on a visit to Brazil, also expressed her support for the Arab League statement and said she hoped negotiations would resume soon.
