Mordehai Va’anunu rejects Nobel Peace Prize nomination

OSLO — Israeli nuclear whistleblower Mordehai Va’anunu has asked the Nobel Peace Prize committee to disregard his nomination for the prestigious award, a Nobel official said Wednesday.
In a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Va’anunu wrote that he doesn't want an award previously given to Israeli President Shimon Peres, said Geir Lundestad, the committee's permanent nonvoting secretary.
"He sees Shimon Peres as the father of the Israeli atomic bomb, and he does not want to be associated with him in any way," Lundestad told The Associated Press.
