North Korea has threatened a "physical response" if the US and South Korea go ahead with joint military exercises planned for this weekend, The Associated Press reported Friday.

North Korean spokesman Ri Tong Il told reporters at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Friday that the exercises would be "another expression of hostile policy against" North Korea. "There will be physical response against the threat imposed by the United States militarily," Tong Il declared.
