N.Carolina evacuates residents as Hurricane Earl approaches

North Carolina on Wednesday ordered evacuation of 30,000 residents, visitors as Hurricane Earl approached the state's shores.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Earl was a powerful Category 4 hurricane centered more than 680 miles (1,095 kilometers) southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, with winds of 135 mph (217 kph).
