NGO Monitor President Professor Gerald Steinberg on Monday said that the Israeli military and political establishments responded appropriately to an IDF officer striking a pro-Palestinian activist in the face with the butt of an M-16 rifle.

"The quick and clear responses of the Israeli government and military officials to the incident demonstrate that credible evidence of violations is dealt with in a professional and responsible manner," he said.

Steinberg also called for a robust investigation of the incident. "The investigation conducted by the IDF should examine all available evidence, including any video material edited out of the posted YouTube version, as well as the behavior of the ISM group."

The NGO Monitor president also condemned the International Solidarity Movement, which filmed and distributed the video, saying that the organization had a history of endorsing violence against Israelis.
