An 18-year-old was seriously injured in Nes Ziona on Saturday night after being smashed on the head by another youth for "refusing to hand over a glass" containing alcohol, police said Monday.
The incident began when the assault victim sat with two female friends in a park and consumed an alcoholic beverage. Two suspects arrived on the scene and demanded to receive the glass.
"After being refused, one of the suspects picked up a plank and smashed it on the head of the victim," police said.
The assault victim was rushed to the Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot, where he remains in serious condition.
On Sunday, police arrested a 17-year-old resident of Nes Ziona on suspicion of the attack. During questioning, the suspect refused to cooperate with police and did not answer questions.
