Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu asked Diaspora Affairs and Information Minister Yuli Edelstein to join an initiative to combat threats to Israel using public diplomacy, according to a statement released Thursday.

Netanyahu requested that Edelstein, who also heads the Israel Broadcasting Authority, undertake “important missions” such as lobbying for sanctions against Iran and negating the Goldstone report on Operation Cast Lead.

Edelstein said he would happily join the initiative, but asked to be released from his role as IBA chief.
