The Prime Minister's Office released a statement Wednesday in response to Defense Minister Ehud Barak's comments, denying that the issue of foreign workers' children was on the cabinet's agenda.

Interior Minister Eli Yishai, who pushed for the expulsion of all 1200 children, responded by accusing Barak of trying to "cynically exploit the children for ratings." Yishai said the cabinet decision was the result of in-depth work by an inter-ministerial committee that cannot be rendered hollow by Barak, who he said was acting as if he heard about the cabinet decision today or the first time.
