New figures estimate 470,000 killed in Syrian conflict

According to the UK's Guardian newspaper, the Syrian Centre for Policy Research (SCPR) has estimated that 470,000 people have lost their lives as a result of the conflict in Syria. The figure is almost twice UN’s estimation of 250,000 deaths, which has not been updated since August 2015.
With an estimated 1.9 million wounded in the ongoing civil war, the SCPR report calculated that 11.5% of Syria's population have been killed or wounded since the violence began in 2011.
In other statistics in the report, life expectancy has plummeted to 55, and the overall economic losses were estimated at USD 255bn.
