Opposition leader Tzipi Leader slammed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for tying the recent terrorist attack in the Itamar settlement to new housing construction in the West Bank. "The cycle of terrorism and building that the prime minister has been caught up in is not the correct cycle," Livni said, adding that "we do not set long term policy based on a singular event, even one as terrible as this."

Speaking on the event itself, Livni said that "the shock from the murder is felt by every citizen in Israel. Children were slaughtered deliberately in their beds. The level of shock and pain does not differ no matter where such an event occurs."
