Palestinian Authority spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh on Monday appealed to the United States not to use the peace negotiations as an excuse to equip Israel with weapons, Israel Radio reported

Abu Rudeineh said that as far as the Palestinians are concerned, there should not be a connection between the settlement freeze and the arming of Israel, Israel Radio reported. The statement was made in response to editorials in newspapers from around the Arab world, criticizing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas for allowing the settlement freeze to lead to the further arming of Israel with advanced warplanes.
