Speaking at Ariel University on Tuesday afternoon, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said it will "always remain under Israeli sovereignty."

In an apparent reference to calls to stop settlement building, Netanyahu said: "We remain faithful to our homeland. We will continue to defend our citizens, develop our country and build in our land," prime minister's spokesperson Ofir Gendelman said.

"History will judge harshly those who equate democratic Israel with regimes that slaughter their people and hold atomic weapons," Gendelman quoted Netanyahu as saying.
