Palestinians to hold investment conference

RAMALLAH, West Bank — The Palestinian Authority government announced it's hosting an investment conference in June.

Economics Minister Hassan Abu Libdeh said Thursday the conference in the town of Bethlehem seeks to pair local and foreign investors with small and medium-sized businesses that make up most of the Palestinian economy.

The conference jibes with the government's two-year plan to build Palestinian institutions in preparation for independence, regardless of progress in peace talks with Israel.

Donors pledged $1.4 billion in the first conference in 2008. Not all of the money was delivered and many projects were slow to get off the ground because of Israeli restrictions on Palestinian trade and movement. Some restrictions have since been eased.
