WARSAW, Poland — Current and previous leaders of Poland met Wednesday to prepare for an official visit by Russia's president aimed at improving relations between the two countries.

President Bronislaw Komorowski held the special meeting with nearly all Poland's living democratic-era presidents, prime ministers and its last communist-era leader at the National Security Council to highlight the importance of the Dec. 6 visit by Dmitry Medvedev.

"We are hoping not for a one-time breakthrough with Dmitry Medvedev's visit but to begin moving in the right direction," Komorowski said.
