Peres celebrates Bastille Day, calls for direct talks

Israeli President Shimon Peres called upon Syria to negotiate without preconditions on Wednesday night, Israel Radio reported.

Speaking at the French embassy in Israel's Bastille Day celebration, Peres reportedy added that Israel hopes to renew direct talks with the Palestinians, and that there is no reason to send flotillas to Gaza, because Israel allows humanitarian aid in.The French ambassador to Israel, Christophe Bigot, said he hopes captive soldier Gilad Schalit will be released soon.
