President Shimon Peres congratulated Chilean President Sebastian Pinera for the efforts to free the 33 men trapped in a mine, in a letter sent on Thursday.

"The people of Israel embrace your people with much praise," Peres wrote. "The unity of your people illustrates that in times of need, incredible miracles can occur. This is one of the finest examples of creativity, solidarity and democracy."
