Peres pardons mother from manslaughter to reunite with baby

President Shimon Peres on Sunday pardoned Hila Mizrahi from having to serve out her full one year prison sentence for accidentally running over and killing a bike rider, in order to allow her to reunite with her infant daughter, according to Army Radio.

Mizrahi struck and killed Itzik Derzi five years ago and had already served the first two months of her prison sentence.

Upon entering prison, Mizrahi was initially allowed to bring her infant with her. A few weeks ago, her daughter was transferred from prison to the father. Now that Peres has pardoned her, Mizrahi will serve the remainder of her sentence by carrying out community service projects.
