Prison: Nazi war criminal dies in Italy

ROME — A prison official said that Michael Seifert, a former SS prison guard convicted for his role in a Nazi massacre in Italy, died on Saturday aged 86.
The Ukrainian-born Seifert was serving a life sentence at the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison in southern Italy.
The prisons official said Seifert died early Saturday in a hospital in Caserta. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. He did not provide other details.
The ANSA news agency said Seifert had been moved from the prison to the hospital following a fall last month. ANSA reported the death first quoting Seifert's lawyer, Paolo Giachini.
