Rabbi Ovadia Yosef sends letter of peace to Mubarak

Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef wrote a letter to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, praising him and all the Arab leaders working for an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement, Channel 2 news reported Thursday.

The letter followed comments earlier this month in which Yosef angered the Arab world by wishing a plague on Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian people.

According to the report, it was President Shimon Peres who encouraged Yosef to make the conciliatory gesture.
