Real Madrid win Champions League trophy in shootout thriller

Christiano Ronaldo scored the winning penalty as Real Madrid lifted the Champions League trophy Saturday night.

In a tight game with local rivals Athletico Madrid, the game was tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Real captain Sergio Ramos opening the scoring on 15 minutes before Atletico substitute Yannick Carrasco equalised in the 79th.

In the shootout, Athletico missed their penultimate spot kick, leaving Ronaldo the task of converting the final kick of the tournament.
