Outgoing Ambassador to Egypt Yitzhak Levanon left Cairo Tuesday morning from the Cairo International Airport after visiting the Egyptian capital for the first time since the embassy was stormed by an angry mob in September, Egyptian daily Al Ahram reported.

Levanon was in Egypt to bid farewell to Egyptian officials before the end of his term, according to Israeli Foreign Ministry officials.

The incumbent ambassador flew to Istanbul from Cairo, according to the report.
