American hikers Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, who have been held by Iran for nearly two years on suspicion of espionage, were allowed to telephone their families on Sunday, CNN reported.
The calls, only the third the pair has been allowed to make in more than 21 months of captivity, lasted no more than five minutes, according to the report.Fattal, Bauer, and American Sarah Shourd were arrested by Iranian forces on July 31, 2009, on suspicion of spying after crossing into Iran from Iraq.
Shourd, who was released on bail in September and returned home, has said they were innocent hikers and never intended to cross into Iran.
