CAIRO - Egypt freed an Iranian diplomat on Sunday who had been detained over spying allegations after the state security prosecutor received confirmation of his diplomatic status, the official news agency MENA reported.
The Iranian's status was confirmed by Egypt's Foreign Ministry, it said. But the MENA report also said he had operated in a way that breached diplomatic protocol.
