MOSCOW - An explosion ripped through the streets of the city of Taraz in southern Kazakhstan, Interfax news agency reported on Saturday, citing eyewitnesses who said some people were injured by the blast.

The incident happened after a militant Islamist group last week claimed responsibility for two explosions in a western Kazakh oil city, after threatening violence in the Central Asian state.
