Iran has been supplying al-Qaida with training, funding and safe haven amid fears that the terror group may be planning an attack in revenge for the killing of Osama bin Laden, Sky News reported on Wednesday, citing intelligence sources.
According to the report, al-Qaida could possibly be planning an attack targeting the 2012 Olympics, scheduled to take place in London this Summer.Sky News cited the sources as saying Iran and al-Qaida first began working together in 2009 and have now established an "operational relationship," which includes training in the use of advanced explosives.
"Iran is the main route through which funding for the organization is made, the main route for operatives to travel to Pakistan for training, and it is the only real way by which [al-Qaida leader Ayman] al Zawahiri can control and order a major attack," Sky quoted an intelligence source as saying.
