Report: Iran rejects Argentine proposal on bombing trials

Iran rejected an Argentinian proposal to try those accused of carrying out the 1994 AMIA bombings in Buenos Aires, in a neutral country, Argentina's Momento24 reported on Tuesday.

The proposal was made by Argentinian President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in late September at the UN General Assembly in New York, the paper reported. Iran submitted their rejection in a letter to UN Sec.-Gen Ban Ki-Moon on September 28, saying the proposal was "unsustainable," according to the report.

The letter read, "the absence of a legal agreement on judicial cooperation between the two countries, and while the Argentine authorities to maintain their unwillingness to negotiate such instruments or, at least to provide evidence to substantiate the accusations against Iranian citizens, any request for judicial cooperation is unsustainable," Momento24 reported.
