Israeli police arrested Azzam al-Ahmad, head of Fatah's parliamentary faction in the Palestinian Legislative Council, on Tuesday, according to Palestinian sources. Al-Ahmad is considered a close associate of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
Al-Ahmad, a resident of Ramallah, was apparently arrested while visiting three former Hamas Palestinian Parliament members at the Red Cross offices in east Jerusalem.
