Report: Palestinian receives PhD while in Negev prison

A Palestinian prisoner at a Negev prison has received a doctorate degree in Public Administration from an American university, according to the Center for Prisoner Education, Channel 10 news reported Sunday.
The Ma'an News Agency reported that Abdel Hapaz Saaudi Gitaan focused on the strategic planning of the Palestinian village Kabilye, located in the northern West Bank near Nablus.
"Gitaan's third degree is meant to break the state occupation, which tries to torture prisoners and isolate them from the world," a statement by the center read.
The doctorate itself was awarded by the American World University in cooperation with Birzeit University.
This is not the first time a Palestinian captive in an Israeli prisoner has received an academic degree. Samir Kuntar and Marwan Bargouti were also recipients of degrees while held by Israeli prisons.
