Senior Labor Party officials call on Yishai to resign

Senior Labor Party members called upon Interior Minister Eli Yishai to resign from his post on Sunday night, in the aftermath of the disastrous fire that ravaged northern Israel over the weekend and that was finally contained after 77 hours with much international help.

"The poor performance in fire and rescue adds to the series of oversights and blind statements made on the part of Yishai. The inevitable conclusion is that it is incumbent upon him to assume responsibility and resign from his position," the party said in statement reported by Army Radio.
