Israeli tennis star Shahar Pe'er advanced to the second round of the Australian Open on Tuesday, defeating Russia's Alexandra Panova 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
The 73rd-ranked Pe'er will face Japan's Kimiko Date-Krumm in round two of the tournament. The victory, Pe'er's first of the year, marked the fourth straight year in which she advanced to the second round of the Austrailian Open.
