Shas leader Eli Yishai on Monday said that his party would support Jerusalem District Court Judge Joseph Shapira in his bid to become Israel's next State Comptroller.
Current State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss’s term officially ends on July 3, and Shapira has been touted as the leading candidate to replace him. There are two other people vying for the position - Deputy Supreme Court President Eliezer Rivlin and president of the Organization of Internal Auditors Shlomo Kalderon.
The Knesset is set to vote on Lindenstrauss’s replacement in a secret ballot on Monday afternoon.
