Sheetrit: Polls make Kadima primary urgent

Kadima leadership candidate Meir Sheetrit called upon incumbent party leader Tzipi Livni on Monday to initiate a primary in the party after a Dialog poll broadcast on Channel 10 found that Livni is only the fourth-most fit candidate to be prime minister.

The poll of 550 respondents representing a sample of the Israeli population found that 36 percent considered Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu the most fit, followed by Labor leader Shelly Yacimovich with 17%, Israel Beiteinu leader Avigdor Lieberman 14% and Livni just 13%.

"The polls aren't complimentary, and they help persuade MKs in Kadima to support initiating primaries," Sheetrit said. "Primaries can reinvigorate the party and return the balance of power back to what it was before. Livni needs to meet with the candidates and initiate the primary herself or the MKs will bring it up in a faction meeting and demand it."
