MADRID — A 41-year-old carpenter died on Monday after being gored in a running-of-the-bulls event in central Spain.
Mayor Jesus Hijosa of the town of Villaseca de la Sagra says a bull gored the man in the chest, damaging his lungs and rupturing vital blood vessels.
Hijosa said the man, who was not identified, died in an ambulance before it reached a hospital in the nearby city of Toledo. The bull-run event was part of morning festivities honoring the Virgin Mary.
Bullfights and bull runs that often precede them have been the focus of attention after northeastern Catalonia this year became the second region to ban such fights, after the Canary Islands in 1991.
It was the third goring death at a bull run in Spain this year.
