Spokesman: Kandahar mayor killed in blast

KANDAHAR - The mayor of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar city was killed in a suicide bomb attack on Wednesday, a spokesman for the provincial governor said.
A suicide bomber detonated his explosives in a corridor near Mayor Ghulam Haidar Hamidi's office, said Zalmay Ayoubi, the spokesman for the Kandahar provincial governor, adding the bomb appeared to be hidden in the man's turban.
Hamidi's death comes two weeks after Afghan President Hamid Karzai's brother, Ahmad Wali Karzai, one of the most powerful men in southern Afghanistan, was assassinated in Kandahar city.
