Switzerland mobilizes armed forces for Francophone summit

GENEVA  — Switzerland announced Wednesday that it has mobilized its army, air force and navy to provide security for more than 70 heads of state and government taking part in a three-day summit of French-speaking countries this week.
The air space around the tony lakeside city of Montreux has been closed and six of Switzerland's 11 maritime patrol boats are in operation on Lake Geneva.
The Ministry of Defense said Wednesday that 5,000 soldiers have been mobilized.
Security concerns have been heightened by violent protests in neighboring France over government plans to raise the country's retirement age from 60 to 62.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy is expected to attend the Francophone summit Saturday.
