Thousands of Palestinians on Sunday received PA President Mahmoud Abbas upon his return to Ramallah from the United Nations, where he successfully oversaw a vote in the General Assembly to upgrade the Palestinians' status to non-member observer state.

Crowds gathered at the Mukata government compound in Ramallah and waving Palestinian flags. The PA hung flags of all the 138 countries that voted in favor of the statehood bid.
