Three Chechens arrested on terrorism charges in France

PARIS— A French judicial source says an investigating judge has charged three Chechens in western France with criminal conspiracy with terrorists.
The source says the three suspects were arrested last week in the Sarthe region as part of an inquiry opened in December 2009 by the Paris prosecutor's office.
Russian authorities had alerted the French that a Chechen living in the Sarthe had weapons, explosives and a map of the Russian capital with potential targets.
The source says Russian authorities alerted France that the Chechen suspect was part of an Islamic terrorist group led by Doku Umarov, a Chechen militant leader sought by Russia whom the United States has designated as a terrorist.
A fourth suspect was released Thursday.
