Turkey softens law prohibiting headscarves for women

Turkey's Higher Education Board has ordered teachers of Istanbul University to stop expelling female students who wear headscarves from classrooms, Reuters reported on Monday.

The board order came at the beginning of October and was the latest decision in a political and legal conflict in Turkey between citizens who see the headscarf as a symbol of their religion and those who see it as obstructing the secular constitution.
