UN Secretary-Genral Ban Ki-moon on Thursday called on Palestinians to return to peace talks with Israel, adding that the impasse in the peace process was harming the entire region, AFP reported.

"I am asking them to enter into meaningful negotiations and the international community has a duty to create some conditions favorable to this," Ban said at a press conference.

Ban criticized as unhelpful Israeli approval of new settlement building, but urged Palestinians to "try to sit together with Israeli people."
