US praises Israel-PA tax revenue collection agreement

The United States on Friday praised Israel and the Palestinian Authority for reaching an agreement on tax revenue collection.

"This is significant for both parties: it should facilitate the flow of goods between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, reduce smuggling, and increase tax revenues to be shared by both parties," said the US State Department said.

The US also tied the agreement to political negotiations over Palestinian statehood, reaffirming that the US encourages both parties to return to negotiations aimed at agreeing on a two-state solution and ensuring the viability of the Palestinian economy "for a future Palestinian state."
