WASHINGTON - The United States will provide North Korea with up to $900,000 in emergency food assistance, the US State Department said on Thursday.

"This emergency relief demonstrates our continuing concern for the well-being of the North Korean people," the State Department said in a statement, adding that it has been a longstanding US position that the provision of humanitarian assistance is separate from political and security concerns.
