Catholic bishops for the Middle East on Saturday called upon the United Nations and the international community to "put an end to the occupation of the different Arab territories," AFP reported.

The statement, which came at the end of a meeting chaired by Pope Benedict XVI, went on to say that "The Palestinian people will thus have an independent and sovereign homeland where they can live with dignity and security," according to the report.
