US Under Secretary for Political Affairs William Burns arrived in Damascus on Wednesday morning for talks with Syrian President Bashar Assad on a variety of topics pertaining to the Middle East.

Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Jan Kohout also began a visit to the Syrian capital on Wednesday.

Both dignitaries were received at the airport by Assad.
