Shas chairman Eli Yishai asked Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Sunday to form a national-unity government with Kadima, due to the security situation in the South. Yishai said he would be willing to forgo portfolios and committee chairmanships in order to enable Kadima to join, but the other parties in the coalition must do the same.

Officials in Likud and Kadima attributed Yishai's request to internal issues in his party and said that they did not take it too seriously.
